My husband and I have been in the healthcare industry for a total of 25 years. During these years we saw first hand the effects of acute and long-term disease stemming from dietary and environmental challenges. As we ventured closer to becoming parents, we started researching organic foods and organic products. Through this research, we found many great organic foods and products which helped us promote a healthy diet, greener home, and environment for our daughter Elise, now 3. Over the past few years, we have found other parents who are increasingly concerned over the various products sold for babies. Examples are conventional cotton sprayed with pesticides, infant formula (containing melamine), bpa plastic bottles which contain allergy causing substances, artificial colors, cancer causing substances, hormone disturbing substances, chemical softeners, parabens, PVC and phthalates. Additionally, concerns over the safety of paints which contain VOC’s or (volatile organic compounds) known for causing acute symptoms, including headaches and dizziness. The long-term effects are less certain, but according to the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, some VOCs are suspected carcinogens. With all of these concerns in mind, my husband and I created the Organic Baby Nursery Co. to help other families get a healthy start with their little ones.
